Part 8 of our 8-part Strengths Connection Series

Welcome to the final part of our Strengths Connection series!

I’m Jen Pasquale, founder of Lead with Curiosity, and I’m so grateful to have had you along for this series. It’s been my privilege to share insights from my work with both individuals and teams, and I hope this series has given you a glimpse behind the curtain into the power of strengths-based development. In our last video, I provide perspective on when and where strengths-centric development can be most impactful.

When Strengths Work Makes the Biggest Impact

Reflecting on the many teams and organizations I’ve worked with, a few environments stand out where strengths-based development has made a significant difference. While these two aren't an exhaustive list, these are situations where the benefits are quick and straightforward.

Organizations Experiencing Change

Strengths work tends to be incredibly effective in organizations undergoing leadership changes or a major structural shift. These transitions can lead to uncertainty or even a loss of trust within teams. Strengths-based development provides a solid foundation for rebuilding trust by helping people understand how to show up for and support each other through the change.

Teams with Friction or Conflict

When a team has friction, it’s often rooted in misunderstandings—perceptions or judgments that might not be entirely accurate. Trust has often been eroded, and the communication strategies in use aren't effective. Strengths work helps teams peel back the layers to truly understand each other at a foundational level. We can reduce conflict and create stronger collaboration by fostering curiosity about what our colleagues need and what they bring to the table and challenging the assumptions or stories we've been holding.

Using Strengths in Leadership and Transitions

Strengths-based development is also impactful for individual leaders—especially new leaders who are still discovering how they want to show up for their teams. Strengths work offers leaders the language to articulate their leadership style and understand how to best engage with the people they lead.

In my own life, strengths work has been a pivotal tool, especially during times of career transition or personal shifts when I needed to recenter and remind myself of my unique value. Individuals facing similar transitions often find strengths work not just informative, but also comforting, as it helps them own who they are.
